THEATER 7 PRESENTS Between the Dams by Arthur Feinsod
December 12, 2017 – Theater 7 continues their First Light Series with Between
the Dams, on December 21st in The Velvet Room at the Terre Haute Brewing Company. Between the Dams is a play in two acts by Arthur Feinsod, the co-founder of Theater 7 and a Professor of Theater at Indiana State University.
Theater 7 was introduced to the Wabash Valley during the summer of 2016. The company focuses on delivering an uplifting theater experience that showcases diversity, simplicity of set and costumes, utilizes a professional core company, includes a service component, and introduces new works to the community. The First Light Series is the vehicle through which Theater 7 produces those new works.
Feinsod describes Between the Dams as “a parable for our time.” Set in Central Europe, a modern-day Noah survives a flood to become the sole inhabitant of a town perched between two dams.
Deciding to create his own new world, he invites ten of society’s outsiders to live there, two by two.
Noah and his community struggle to maintain their utopia against internal and external threats.
This play evolved from interviews with Hungarian “outsiders” (Muslims, Roma, Jews, LGBT, and disenfranchised Christians) conducted by Feinsod during his sabbatical in Budapest, Hungary in spring 2016. The play has been translated into Hungarian and recently received a dramatic reading by members of the Hungarian theatre company PanoDrama.
Theater 7 will be highlighting Terre Haute’s own Hungarian heritage on the 21st. The Hungarian Society, which was established in Terre Haute in 1909, will be sponsoring the production and sharing some of their favorite Hungarian Christmas traditions with those who attend Between the Dams: candies, pastries, and coffee.
Tickets to Between the Dams will be available at the Terre Haute Brewing Company, 401 South 9th Street, starting at 5:00 pm. on December 21st. Admission is $7, or $4 with a valid student ID. The show will begin at six with some discussion following.
